About PJ
That's me. Hello.
I got into this filling coin books with my kids. One or two a year at first, then a good deal more than one or two a year. The men who taught me were dealers in their eighties and nineties. They could have taken advantage of somebody who did not know anything, and they did not. They taught me instead.

PJ and his wife, Carrie.
Now I'm the one on the other side of the table.
That's how I try to run it. You'll deal with me. Not a form, not a call center, not somebody in another state. I sort what you bring into common, better and best in front of you, I open the price guide with you on the good pieces, and I tell you what it's worth before I tell you what I can pay — and why those are two different numbers.
I've been buying and selling for about twenty years — at shows from Miami to Michigan, online, and across a lot of kitchen tables. The storefront on Magazine Street is newer: it opened in 2026, and it runs on a two-week cycle because I still stand watches for the Coast Guard and use real vacation days to work the show circuit. Sault Ste. Marie is home. My wife Carrie and the kids are here, and so is the shop.
The old dealers who taught me had two rules I still run on: realize a profit when you can and don't try to hit a home run on every deal — and if you want to learn what your stuff is worth, try to sell it yourself. Twenty years later I'm the one saying it.
“Chances are your pocket change doesn't have the hundred-thousand-dollar dime. But your dad's coffee can might have something. Let's look.”

On the shop wall: Coast Guard, Soo, Michigan.
Who I answer to
Memberships and distributorships are the part of this trade you can check on somebody else's website, which is exactly why they're worth listing.

A licensed Michigan business
UP North Coins & Bullion, LLC. Photo identification is required on every purchase and every purchase is written down and held as Michigan law requires. That protects you as much as it protects me.
NORFED and Liberty Dollars
The corner of the trade I'm known for. More here.
Come say hello.
Call, or stop in on an open day. Bring the coffee can.
When you call you get me, not a menu. If I'm on watch, leave a message and I call back — usually the same day, always within one.
